Australia is known for its strict approach against illegal online gambling and betting. The Australian Communications and Media Authority recently notified Australian internet service providers to block additional unlawful offshore gambling websites. This is after investigations that revealed up to eight gambling operators violated the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
The online casinos to be blocked from accessing the Australian iGaming space include Mirax Casino, Wild Fortune Casino, No Deposit Kings Casino, Rolling Slots, Slotozen, N1 Bet Casino, Kosmoaut Casino, and Casino Jax.
Blocking unlawful websites is a method that has been working perfectly for the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). The body says that this is one of several enforcement measures they employ against unlawful online gambling in Australia.
This method was first introduced in November 2019, when the country successfully blocked 700+ gambling sites and affiliate domains. Furthermore, since the commencement of new offshore gambling laws in 2017, the ACMA has seen over 180 services exit the Australian market.
While announcing the new measures, the ACMA warned Australians, urging them to be wary about their money and illegal gambling services. The authority has advised that these services often lack necessary customer protection measures, meaning those who use them may be at risk of not receiving their money back. The ACMA urged all gamblers to check the ACMA register to ensure they play at the best online casinos in Australia.
In December last year, the ACMA asked ISPs to shut down Pokizino and ABA Lucky 33. This is after the body found that both websites are illegal in Australia.
But it's not all bad news on the Australian iGaming scene, because the body cleared Sportsbet of wrongdoings in December 2022. There were suggestions that Sportsbet, Australia's largest web-based sportsbook, had breached the nation's restriction on in-play betting.
